Certificate without company data

Certificates with domain validation do not contain any company data. We only check whether the applicant has control over the domain for which the certificate is requested.The certificate is trusted by all browsers and offers a secure connection with 128/256-bit encryption.

Validation

Domain validation is done by sending a validation code to an email address of the domain for which the certificate is requested. Several types of email addresses can be used for this domain validation: admin, administrator, webmaster, hostmaster and postmaster@ of the domain for the domain in question. It is also possible to use the addresses from the domain name holder (whois) information for this.

For Sectigo certificates, it is also possible to upload a file to the website or add a record to the DNS for the purposes of the validation. During the order process, our system will indicate what file or record this should be.

Delivery time

Because no company data is included, the certificate is usually issued just several minutes after the domain validation has been completed. For suspect domains, manual verification may be required, which will increase the delivery time.

Certificate with company data

The certificates with organisation validation contain company data. With this company data, visitors of a website can verify whether they are visiting the correct organisations website. The company data is included in the certificate, but will not be prominently displayed like with EV certificates.

Validation

In addition to the domain validation with which the applicant shows that they have control over the domain for which the certificate was requested, the company data is also verified. To do so, we look at a public registry, such as that of the Chamber of Commerce, and we contact the organisation by phone.

Delivery time

The delivery time of the certificates differs per supplier. Because we have to conduct a verification by telephone, the delivery time is longer than that of domain validation. However, Sectigo certificates, for example, can be issued within fifteen minutes during office hours.

Certificate with visible company data

Certificates with extended validation (EV) show the company data within one mouse-click and comply to very strict guidelines.

Validation

In addition to the domain validation with which the applicant shows that they have control over the domain for which the certificate was requested, the company data is also verified. To do so, we look at a public registry, such as that of the Chamber of Commerce, and we contact the organisation by phone. Some suppliers require documents to be signed and submitted to us.

Delivery time

Because of the extensive verification process we have to conduct, EV certificates have the longest delivery time. Processing EV applications for Sectigo usually takes a working day, while other suppliers might take slightly longer.

Single Domain Certificates

The standard certificates secure a single domain name.

Free extra domain

Some certificates come with a free extra domain, thus the certificate works for the domain with and without the www. prefix. The rules differ per brand:

  • Sectigo (formerly Comodo)
    • When requesting a single domain certificate for a www or non-www domain, the other domain (www or non-www) will be added for free.

Multiple domains

Multi Domain Certificate

A multi-domain certificate (MDC/UCC) secures multiple (sub)domain names in a single certificate. These may include different main domains, but:

  • For multi-domain certificates with company data, all domains must have the same domain owner.

Note: Added domains don't automatically work for the domain with and without www. Do you want to secure both yourdomainname.com as well as www.yourdomainname.com? Please enter them separately.

Adding domains

During the running time, the certificate can be expanded with additional domains via a reissue. You only pay for the remaining time of the newly added (sub)domains.

Wildcard domains

Sectigo can also issue this certificate with wildcard domains (this is not possible with extended validation). These wildcard domains can be used to secure all subdomains of a certain main domain.

Price calculation

The prices shown are for the first two (sub)domains. After this number you pay an amount per extra (subdomain), the amounts are shown next to the product. If you add extra domains during the validity of the certificate, the costs will be calculated over the remaining validity of the certificate.
